Answer Wiki Unofficial Launch

22nd Feb 2006General

I would like to unofficially announce the launch of Answer Wiki. I had this idea for a question and answer wiki a few months ago. I bought a domain and set up the wiki but never really got the site off the ground. I just didn’t have the time or motivation to put into it to make it work. However, this last month I hired a developer to make a few changes and this week my partner in this venture, Robbie Pierce, is going to be reorganizing the site and putting up some content, so next week we will officially launch Answer Wiki. Please check it out and let me know what you think and please let me hear any suggestions or comments you may have. Answer Wiki will be officially launched on March 1, 2005.

Interesting idea. Do you plan to use the standard “anyone can play” method to handle silly, bogus, or otherwise inept “answers”?

Also, I’ve been thinking of a community-edited knowledge base I would like to see… might be a good corollary to AnswerWiki. I’ve been thinking about how nice it would be to have a “troubleshooting” database – filled with error messages, problems, and solutions. For example, the other day one of my Perl programs complained “Wide character in print…” huh? So, I googled. And I found the answer. And I wish there was a well-known-place for error messages and fixes.

For now Answer Wiki will use the “anyone can play” method, but we are thinking about implementing a system where users have some sort of feedback rating so that users can better judge the quality of an answer based on who answered it.
