I recently finished reading a book by Tim Sanders called Love Is The Killer App. It is an awesome book, and I would encourage everyone to read it. In the book Sanders advocates becoming a Lovecat, someone who is helpful and loving to everyone. Sanders outlines three things we should do to become a Lovecat, gain knowledge, network, and show compassion. We should do more than just be nice to people. We should share our knowledge and network freely to help them out. That’s what being a Lovecat is all about, adding value to lives of others just because you want to help, without a thought of any compensation.

While I was reading the book there were many times that I would say to myself “Cool, that’s what I already do”, then as I read on I would find out things I wasn’t doing that I thought would be a good idea to implement. Such as when Sandbers talks about knowledge. He said we should be constantly gaining new knowledge by always reading new books, which is something I’ve done pretty much my whole life. Sanders then goes on to say that we should share our knowledge with others who we think can benefit from it, which is something that I haven’t really done very much. I have kind of been selfish with my knowledge in the past, so this is something I can work on.

Just last week I went to the first ever Business Ignitor Series event to take place in Utah County. Paul Allen gave a speech where he said he grew up with a negative attitude towards entrepreneurs and businessmen. He said that reading Love Is The Killer App helped change his attitude. He realized how much good he could do in the world by being an Entrepreneur. A few weeks ago at a press conference for the launch of FundingUtah.com, Paul Allen was asked how he planned on making money from FundingUtah.com. His instant reply was “Don’t know. Don’t care.” His first priority was not to make money, but to help others. He is a true Lovecat.
