Craigslist

12th May 2005General

A few days ago I was browsing Alexa‘s list of 100 most popular websites looking for sites I was not familar with. When I came to site #43, Craigslist, I clicked on the link to thier site because it was a site I had never even heard of before. I was somewhat suprised to see a site that was just a list of a bunch of links with no graphics or advertisements. I wondered why this site was so popular so I started browsing thier site to find out why so many people visited it. I ended up spending over an hour on thier site. The site is basically just a huge collection of free classifieds. I found many interesting things that I thought could be useful in the future so I bookmarked the site and I have since been regular visitor. I later posted a listing looking for freelance web developers. Within the next few days I got over 20 responses to my listing. I now understand why Craigslist is so popular. It is useful and free. At the time I am writing this Craigslist now has an Alexa ranking of 27.
